Nanette Johnston's Phone Records
Five months after his conviction, Eric discovered a critical oversight in the prosecution’s analysis of Nanette’s phone records. Investigators had previously identified a recurring phone number that appeared multiple times in the week leading up to the murder—including the day prior—yet ceased immediately after the crime. Although investigators traced the number to a specific name and address, they failed to pursue the lead. A post-conviction interview later revealed that the individual at that address claimed to barely know Nanette; however, this was contradicted by a business plan Nanette had authored specifically for him. This discrepancy was just one of several documented falsehoods this individual provided to detectives.
